Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Tiffany Tyler, has been appointed by Governor Sisolak as the Director of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) where she will continue her critical work in the realm of workforce development, job training and placement, and vocational rehabilitation.
She is stepping down after two years of tireless work leading the Nevada operation of the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization. Dr. Tyler will be leaving a strong team in place, and she is confident there will be a seamless transition.
Since becoming CEO in August of 2016, Dr. Tyler facilitated valuable relationships with community partners and corporate sponsors to bring into low-income Nevada schools, and was often asked to advocate on behalf of disadvantaged students to government legislatures on local, state, and national levels.
“We’ve increased the organization’s capacity statewide through school expansion in Reno and Las Vegas and deepened the engagement in social justice and education reform with community organizations,” said Dr. Tyler. “We’ve leveraged state and school district partnerships to provide safety nets for children in poverty, and increased support for school safety and mental health — I am incredibly proud of everything my team and I have been able to accomplish together.”
