Henderson, Nev. (July 10, 2019) – The City of Henderson, in partnership with Moonshot at the Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (NACET), is seeking local entrepreneurs with the next great business idea to apply for its pitch competition. Contestants will have the chance to gain exposure for their business idea and win cash or prizes.
Applications are open from July 15 and must be submitted by Aug. 5. Semifinalists will then be selected to participate in the initial pitch phase, which takes place on Aug. 17 at the College of Southern Nevada and is open to the public. All entrepreneurs participating in the competition will receive counseling and coaching from top industry experts and local business leaders.
The top five finalists will be invited to present their business idea on stage at the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Connect Expo on August 22 at the M Resort. Special guest and keynote presenter for this event is Kiersten Hathcock, CEO/Founder of Mod Mom Furniture and ABC’s Shark Tank winner, season two. That same night, a winner of the third annual Start Tank competition will be crowned!
“We are hungry for that next great business idea that we know is right here in our own community. Any entrepreneur who simply has an idea and wants real business advice, this competition is for you.” said Ken Chapa, the Acting City of Henderson’s Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “Ideas are heard and critiqued by experts who can help those ideas grow into a real business.”
Applicants for “Start Tank” must create a two-minute video posted to YouTube and complete the online application at hendersonnow.com/start-tank/. The submissions chosen for the pitch competition and workshop will be announced the week of August 12.
In addition to Moonshot at NACET, the City of Henderson is partnering with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Bank of Nevada, Parallel Innovation Labs, Holland & Hart, Henderson Redevelopment Agency, College of Southern Nevada, Public Works Coffee Bar and TSK Architects for the competition.
